George Joseph Cohen Jr., 73, of Lynchburg, VA, died Saturday, December 17, 2011. He was the husband of Corrinne Storey Cohen for 50 years.
Born Friday, September 30, 1938 in Norfolk, VA, George was a son of the late George Joseph Cohen, Sr. and Florence Gardner Cohen Arnold.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers Stanley and Horace Cohen.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by a son Thomas George Cohen and his wife Leslie, of Raleigh, NC, two grandchildren, Trisha and Travis Cohen, of Raleigh, NC, a brother: Lawrence Bipere of Corpis Christi, TX; three sisters: Frances Hoffman and her husband, Harold, of Riverdale, MD, Delisha Kimbro and her husband, Paul, Muskegon, MI, and Clara Clewis, of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers in-law: Ernest Dalton, Sr., of Lynchburg and Bobby Dalton, of Ocala, FL; two sisters in-law: Myrtle Dalton, of Madison Heights, and Barbara Towler, of Ocala, FL; and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was affectionately known as Papa George to everyone. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather, who took good care of his family. He was a hard worker, who from the age of 12 worked as a brick mason. In his spare time he loved to play cards, work puzzles, and watch wrestling on TV. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Army, as a member of the 101st Airborne, and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where he served on the Fellowship Committee and drove for Meals on Wheels.
A Graveside service will be conducted at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at Fort Hill Memorial Park with Pastor Dennis S. Roberts and Rev. Rod Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery and at the residence following the service.
