George Lewis Mitchell, 91, of Madison Heights, Va., passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 25, 2019.
He was born in Amherst County, Va. to the late Howard and Mildred Mitchell.
He is survived by his wife, Linda; two sons, Lee Wood and Mark Wood; and his “grand-dog” Teddy.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and a building contractor who had a hand in building over 300 homes in the greater Lynchburg area. He was a member of The Nazarene Church.
The family will receive friends tonight, Wednesday, February 27, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Briarwood Memorial Garden with Galen Lemon officiating.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Centra Hospice and Stroobants Cardiovascular Center for the exceptional care given to George.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association, donatenow.heart.org
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
