George Miles Tweedy

George Miles Tweedy, 84 of Lynchburg, passed away Monday, July 22, 2013, at Liberty Ridge Health & Rehabilitation. He had suffered many years with scleroderma. He is survived by Shirley Roach Tweedy, his devoted wife of 61 years. Born June 18, 1929 in Bedford County; he was a son of the late John H. Tweedy and the late Rosa Miles Tweedy.

George served his country in the United States Army occupation in Korea prior to the Korean War. He retired from CorEast Savings Bank. He was a 32nd degree Mason in the Hill City Masonic Lodge and a prior long-term member of the Lynchburg Exchange Club, having served as president in 1969-1970 when he received the VA District Exchange Club\"™s Reginald S. Berry Award for Outstanding Club President. He was a member of Chestnut Hill Baptist Church for 57 years and was a past deacon.

George loved golfing. He and his wife, Shirley, along with friends, took many golfing trips.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his sisters; Helen Blanks of Madison Heights, Arlene Paris (Leonard) of Richmond, and Shirley Altarac of Miami, FL; a brother-in-law, Roland Roach; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, today, July 24, 2013 at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Bower officiating. Interment in Fort Hill Memorial Park will immediately follow the service. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
