George “Nick” Briggs
George Nicholas \"Nick\" Briggs, 78, of Lynchburg, VA, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011. He was the husband of the late Sara Henley Briggs for 51 years.
Born in Massillon, OH, February 1, 1933, he was a son of the late William Briggs and Ruby Nell Briggs. Nick attended the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Akron University, and New Haven University. During his career, he advanced to Senior Vice President of human resources, residing in Guilford, CT, St. Marys, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, and Atlanta, GA, before retiring to Oak Island, NC. He was an active member of the Episcopal Church. Nick\"™s hobbies were history, golf, and bridge.
He is survived by four children; Michael Briggs and wife, Sandra of Alamo, CA, Elizabeth Lynch and husband, John of Manassas, VA, Anne Alfieri and husband, John of Lynchburg, and David Briggs and wife, Carolyn of Pittsburgh, PA; 11 grandchildren, Patrick Briggs, Nicholas Lynch, Ryan Lynch, Annie Lynch, Angela Alfieri, Leah Alfieri, Joseph Alfieri, Phillip Briggs, Rachel Briggs, Sara Briggs, and Lauren Briggs.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011 in Sunset Hills Burial Park, Canton, OH.
