George Stanton Perry Sr. of Ridge Avenue, Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away on December 26, 2014, at the residence of his nephew and niece, Timothy Saunders and Krystal Mattox, his caretakers and loving family.
He was born on January 20, 1934, to Harold Taylor Perry and Bertha (Peckham) Robinson Perry in South Kingston, Rhode Island. George was a Narragansett Indian and veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served aboard the U.S.S. Randolph while stationed at Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida, having fulfilled the requirements of boot camp at Bainbridge, Md.
George was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Lee (Morris) Perry, and daughters: Alice Marie (Perry) Reeves and Anita (Perry) Johnson Jones.
He is survived by his children: Kathleen Perry of Lynchburg, George Stanton Perry Jr. of Lynchburg, Lisa Poindexter (Jimmy) of Lynchburg, Abdul-Malik Khan (Willie), of Lynchburg, and Donald Perry also of Lynchburg. He was also a Grandfather, Great Grandfather, and Great-Great Grandfather.
George met the love of his life, Alice Lee Morris while in Boot Camp at Bainbridge, MD. Later he was quite surprised to find that Ms. Morris had been assigned to his next duty station, PNAS Florida and they became fast friends. They later married and had seven children, having lived in Pensacola, Portsmouth, Norfolk, and New London .He loved sports, didn’t really matter which one because if he was in his lazyboy, whatever we were watching generally ended up watching him while he slept and Mom mischievously trying to encourage us to join her in the latest way to wake him up from “that snoring!” They enjoyed a love many can never know. In the end they forgave one another as they always did and when she left us he remained in love, chasing the “Red Fox” until December 26 2014.(No doubt they’re fussing at one another right now!) Funeral plans are pending.
