George Washington Campbell, 77, of Lynchburg, VA, died Sunday, January 11, 2015. He was the estranged husband of Lakala Scott Campbell.
George was born Monday, February 15, 1937, in Amherst County, a son of the late Lawson Campbell and Bethel Angus Campbell.
After retiring as a driver from Trailways/Greyhound Bus Lines, George owned and operated Campbell’s Lawn Service for over 20 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter: Cheryl Albright (Mike); and his companion for over 30 years, Hazel Maddox; his grandson, Trevor Albright; a brother: Mack Campbell (Patricia); four sisters: Erma Goff, Lovie Phillips, Jean Hudson (Winston) and Eunice Hawkins (Richard); and four sisters-in law: Alice Campbell, Barbara Campbell, Faye Coleman and Gracie Campbell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Lloyd, Kinkle, Howard and Gordon and a sister: Bessie Childress.
George loved his family and pets and being outside in nature. He spent many happy hours beautifying his and his customers’ properties.
A celebration of George’s life will be conducted at 11:00AM on Wednesday, January 14, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg with the Reverend Roger Childress officiating. The only reception time for family will be at the funeral home following the memorial service.
