Gerald Bryan Scruggs
Gerald Bryan Scruggs, 51, of Evington, VA, died Wednesday, August 15, 2012. He was the devoted husband of April Phipps Scruggs for 29 years.
Gerald was born Friday, February 24, 1961 in Lynchburg, VA, a son of Reginald Dennis Scruggs and Doris Torian Scruggs. He was employed with Centra Health where he was HVAC Supervisor.
He was a man of quiet passion. He had a sharp sense of humor with a mischievous grin. The outdoors was his Sanctuary. There he built a humble ranch, raised a barn, and fished from sunrise to sunset. His presence was legendary and his family is honored to be a part of his epic story.
In addition to his parents and spouse, he is survived by his children: Dakota Shane Scruggs of Forest, Trevor Bryan Scruggs and Savannah Leigh Scruggs both of Evington; a brother: R. D. Scruggs, Jr. of Forest; a sister: Catherine Elizabeth Scruggs of Lynchburg; Father & Mother-in-law: Thomas Gayle and Shelby Phipps of Lynchburg; brother-in-law: Timothy G. Phipps (Mary) of Georgia and their children: Shelby, Jacob and Samantha.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM on Saturday, August 18, 2012 at Chestnut Hill Baptist Church. A celebration of Gerald's life will be conducted immediately following at his church, Chestnut Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Bower officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Wounded Warriors of Virginia, 900 East Main St. 6th Floor West Wing, Richmond, VA, 23219, as he was an avid supporter of the Military.
