Gerald Storoe Modjeska, 89, of Lynchburg, Virginia died on June 23, 2015. He was the husband of Sheila Campbell Modjeska for 33 years. Jerry was born September 11, 1925 in Peoria, Illinois, the son of Frances Storoe and George Modjeska. He is survived by his son, Solomon, and wife, Harmony, and their twelve children; by his step-son, Donald Junta, Jr., and wife, Irmgard, and children, David Junta, and his wife, Mary Carter, Lisa Marinelli and husband, John, and Katrina Junta; step-daughter, Laura Johnson and children, Greg Johnson and Angela Johnson. Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers George and Gene.
Jerry was graduated from Peoria High School and Bradley University. After graduation from the University of Illinois, Chicago, College of Medicine, he did a residency in pediatrics and one in pathology. Jerry was in private practice in Indianapolis in pediatrics after serving his country in the U.S. Army Medical Corps at the Battalion Aid Station with the 2nd Infantry Division in Korea as battalion surgeon. He was awarded the Soldiers Medal. He was Chief Medical Director and Vice President at CNA Insurance Company in Chicago and Nashville before serving as V.P. and Chief Medical Director at First Colony Life / GE Financial Assurance. Later Jerry served as their medical consultant.
Jerry was a member of First Presbyterian Church and the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine. He belonged to Boonsboro Country Club and was an avid golfer. He also enjoyed bridge, tennis, racquetball, and fishing.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at First Presbyterian Church, 1215 V.E.S. Road, on Saturday, June 27, at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Family will greet friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
