Geraline Sharner Oulds Avery

April 22, 1935 — June 30, 2024

Lynchburg, Virginia

Geraline Sharner Oulds Avery, 89, of Evington, Virginia peacefully transitioned Sunday June 30th. She was born to Lillian Andrews Oulds and Stephen “Daddy Rabbit” Oulds on Monday April 22, 1935. She was affectionately known by many as Ger, Ms. Avery, and to her closest loved ones as Lady G. She was a loving and devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend. Growing up, she was a Grandpa’s girl. She was also a Daddy’s girl, and was known to be very protective of her Daddy. A lady of refined taste, she always had her own particular way of doing things and wanting things done. Known to be classy, but also just a little bit sassy, she carried herself with an air of elegance and flair. She loved to be fashionable, and was known for her stylish and well put together looks. As a young mother, she lived in Washington D.C. for several years, before moving back home to Evington to continue raising her family. In younger years, during the summers, she, her sisters, and her mother would get together to do canning of fruits and vegetables. And during the winters, she loved when family and friends came into town for the holidays. Over the years, she enjoyed adorning and redecorating her home, and she loved her flowers, both in and around her house. She also enjoyed sewing, and as a young woman, did work as a seamstress for several years. She was funny, lively, and spirited to those closest to her, and she was known to be a force to be reckoned with when upset. And then after she teased or taunted you, she would smile a cheeky grin and say, “Sweet little innocent me?” Nonetheless, her fiery spirit and willfulness carried her through the many ups and downs life would throw her way. And she will forever be missed by the many people she touched with her spirit and her life.

She leaves to cherish with her beloved memory, her daughters, Sandra Booker (Sherman - deceased), and Stacie Rose; stepson, Alphonso Avery (Hattie) ; as well as her grandchildren, Lewis “Punkin” Foxx, Jr. (Carmela), Melissa “Missy” Goode (Ronald), Sheree Saunders (Timothy), John “TJ” Peterson, Terence “Terry” Peterson, Courtney Hill (Sean), Alicia Broadus, and Barbara Broadus, three sisters, Cecilia “Cecil” Hull, Luwatha “Lue” Dawkins (John), and Mary “Dee” Calloway, as well as many great grand children, great great grand children, nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis Avery, her children Deborah “Debbie” Peterson, Darryl “Pete” Avery, and Cecilia Rose, and her granddaughter Sabrina Booker Albert, as well as her parents, and eight siblings.
