Gerard Lamont Crawley gained his wings Sunday, October 17, 2021, in Charlotte North Carolina after a brief illness.
Born in Lynchburg Virginia, on July 25, 1988, he was the beloved son of Berle Crawley and Debra Ford Crawley. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert L. and Dorothy Wesley Crawley and Rev. Johnny Ford, Sr. and Shirley Colmore Ford. He was also preceded in death by his godfathers David Lee Hutcherson and Robert W. Rose and his godmother Nina C. Stone.
Gerard had an adventurous spirit and never missed an opportunity for new challenges. He never met a stranger and everyone he met became a friend for life. He accepted Christ at an early age and became a member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church.
Gerard was a graduate of Amherst County High School, class of 2006. He went on to study at Christopher Newport University where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Southern New Hampshire University where he earned a Masters in Sports Management. Gerard had a contagious love of basketball and was able to share his talents as the Undergraduate Assistant Women’s coach at Christopher Newport University. The team earned the title of NCAA Regional Champions during his tenure. He also coached at the middle and high school level in the Williamsburg area.
Gerard worked as a special education teacher in the Williamsburg area and was currently employed as a Customer Care Analyst at AvidXchange in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was also a certified Notary.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Alicia D. Crawley of Madison Heights, VA, his aunts Sondra Jones (Alphonso) of Lynchburg, VA, Danielle Ford (Laurel) of Parkville, MD, Louise Marshall of Lynchburg, VA, Minnie Hutcherson, Gail Brown, and Carolyn Thomas (Fred) of Madison Heights, VA and Lillie Jackson of Sacramento, CA, his uncles Johnny Ford Jr. (Diane) of Harker Heights, TX and Darryl Ford of Irvine, CA, godmothers Linda Ferguson and Minnie Hutcherson, devoted friends John Corser, Marcus Fontanez, Andrew Carver, Jacob Follman, James Wyatt and a host of great aunts, cousins, other relatives and loving friends.
Gerard will lie in repose at the Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg Chapel on Thursday October 21, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm and Friday, October 22, 2021 at the Tharp Funeral Home Madison Heights Chapel.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights Friday, October 22, 2021. A Celebration of Gerard’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Carmel Baptist Church, 800 Cabell St, Lynchburg, VA 24504. Interment will follow at the Baptist Cemetery. Family and friends will assemble at the church.
