Having lived life to its fullest, Gerardo “Gerry” Bianco, Jr. 65, of Lynchburg died unexpectedly at home on Sunday, February 20, 2022, his wife of 42 years Emma Bianco by his side.
Gerry was born October 1, 1956, in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of the late Gerry Bianco, Sr. and Jennie Bianco.
Gerry graduated from Virginia Tech, with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering. Professionally, he worked at Griffin Pipe for 37 years. An avid guitar player, he was the director of the contemporary musical group at Holy Cross Catholic Church, where he was a member since childhood. Using music to sooth the soul of everyone he met, Gerry’s shared rhyme and rhythm with family and friends through sacred songs and Rock n’ Roll tunes combining his devout faith and fun natured spirit. In retirement Gerry spent much of his time at the beach with his wife, two children, grandchildren, family and friends. Often, he was heard saying, “I’d rather be lost at the beach, than found at home.”
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Casey Bianco Tomlin and husband Alex, Amanda Bianco and beloved grandchildren Gigi and Zane (his pride and joy), his sister, Carol Ann Cosby and husband Peter, three brothers-in-law: Randy, James, and John Blankenship and wife Cheryl, five nieces: Christina Cosby and Courtney, Hannah Acevedo, Jessica Blankenship and Erica.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home on Friday, February 25, 2022. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery. The family request that all visitors follow COVID-19 guidelines regarding social distancing and wear a mask.
