Gertrude Coleman Phillips

Gertrude Taylor Coleman Phillips, 94, of Evington, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, December 5, 2012. She was born on June 12, 1918 in Fries, VA the daughter of the late Robert Taylor and the late Elizabeth Dillon Taylor.

Gertrude is survived by four daughters; Cheryl Coleman of Evington, Brenda Sprouse of Lynchburg, Joanna Miller and husband, Richard of Forest and Loretta Eagle and husband, Jesse of Evington; two sons, Melvin Coleman and wife, Arlene and Tim Coleman, Sr. all of Evington; fourteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Gertrude was predeceased by two sons, Leslie E. \"Mike\" Coleman and Robert E. Coleman, Sr.; five sisters and two brothers.

Gertrude was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church. She worked for thirty-five years as a seamstress and retired from Central Virginia Training Center. She was a master seamstress and made custom clothing for many physically challenged individuals.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg with the Rev. Roy Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
