Gertrude P.C. Brown, 90, resident at Westminster Canterbury died Sunday, October 16, 2016.
Mrs. Brown lived in Bridgehampton, Long Island, N.Y. until attending college at New York State College for Teachers in Albany, N.Y. After earning her BA and MA, she taught in several Long Island schools until moving to Virginia, where she taught in Tazewell Co. and then at New London Academy in Bedford. She was a life member of Virginia Education Association and National Education Association, and belonged to the Lynchburg branch of American Association of University Women where she was historian for a number of years.
Surviving are her two children, Ralph W. Brown, III, PhD (Paula) of West Monroe, La., and Janice B. Martinez, CNM (Eddie) of Henderson, N.C.; five grandchildren, Shana Shrader (Jon) of Warrenton, Va., Anna Stephen (James) of Lancaster, England, Reece Martinez of Bedford, Va., Zoe Brown of West Monroe, La., and Ashby Brown of West Monroe, La..; great-grandchildren, Gavin and Emerson Shrader of Warrenton, Va.; her sister-in-law, Audrey Coslick of Bridgehampton, NY; her two nieces, Evelyn Vercase of Bridgehampton, N.Y., and Nancy Bennett (Al) of Bridgehampton, N.Y.; and one great-niece, Wendy Bennett (Michael Chapman) of Mt. Sinai, N.Y.
She was predeceased by her brother, John Arnold Coslick; and a great-granddaughter, Grace Shrader.
