Gil Cartagena Puzon

Gil Cartagena Puzon, 81, of Lynchburg, Va. died peacefully at his home on Friday, March 1, 2019. He was the husband of Paulita Puzon of 63 years.
Born on July 19, 1937 in Santa Rosa Laguna, Philippines, he was one of six children.
He is survived by his brothers, Francisco and Manny Puzon; daughters, Grace Puzon, Gilda Cadieux (Eddie), Glennis Escobar (Gary), Gladys Andrews (Dean); sons, Gerry Puzon (Michelle), and Ramon Puzon (Sue); 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
He graduated Valedictorian from Santa Rosa High School and then from Mapua Institute of Technology in Manila, Philippines, College of Engineering. He obtained a professional engineering degree in the United States. In 1968 he worked for NASA, Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, Fla. He also worked for General Electric in Gainesville, Fla. and for Babcock & Wilcox as a mechanical engineer for 25 years in Lynchburg, Va. He enjoyed his retirement years working at Walmart for the last 18 years. He was the “Face” of Walmart, always with a smile when greeting customers.
He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and Advisor of Junior Achievement. He was an avid reader, around the world cruiser, Netflix and sports enthusiast. He also enjoyed playing tennis, singing, and dancing. Above all, he was devoted to his wife, family, grandkids, and friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, March 4, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg, Va. On Tuesday, March 5, visitation will be held at 11 a.m. with a memorial service at 12 p.m. at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Roundelay Rd, Lynchburg, VA. A reception will follow the service.
