Gilbert Mays Fariss, 92, of Lynchburg, died on Thursday, May 9, 2024. He was the husband of Joanne L Fariss. Born on October 2, 1931, he was a son of the late Maggie Carwile Fariss and the late Charlie Weston Fariss.
In addition to his wife, Gilbert is survived by one daughter, Diann Fariss of Charlottesville Virginia, two step daughters, Rosita Domingoes and her husband, Michael, of Myrtle Beach South Carolina, and Lindy Elias of Woodbridge, and one step son, Michael Elias and his wife, Kathy of New Baltimore Michigan; three grandchildren, Jennifer Anglin and her husband, Henry, of Louisville Kentucky, Liz Scharen and her husband, Derek, of King George Virginia, and Kenneth Hoppe and his wife, Nina of Hayes Virginia, three step grandchildren, Christina Bolter and her husband, Mark, of Clifton Virginia, Frank Domingoes and his wife Ashley of Charlotte North Carolina, Sabrina Gandy and her husband, Matthew of Fredericksburg, and eleven great-grandchildren and six step great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Charlotte Fariss of Lynchburg and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Gilbert was predeceased by his wife Faye Marrs Fariss, his brothers, Harry, Milton, Jasper and Clinton Fariss and five sisters, Lenora Fariss, Esther F Miller, Pauline F Daniel and Catherine F Caldwell.
Gilbert was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church and served in many ways through the years. He served in the US Army and retired from a civil service career. He loved seeing his growing family, gardening, repairing furniture, traveling, volleyball, square dancing and walking.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at RoseWood Village on Greenbrier in Charlottesville and other private caregivers for their loving care, compassion and support.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 PM, Saturday, May 18, 2024 at Mount Zion United Methodist Church by Pastor Charlie Johnson with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 2:00 PM.
