Giovannina “Jennie” Cavallaro Bianco, 97, of Lynchburg, died peacefully Sunday, October 2, 2016. She was the wife of the late Gerardo “Gerry” Antonio Bianco Sr. Together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage.
Jennie was born May 30, 1919, in Dorchester, Mass.; a daughter of Sicilian immigrants, the late Dominico Cavallaro and the late Antonietta Battaglia Cavallaro. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, the Bedford Hills Garden Club, and General Electric Wives.
Jennie lived life to the fullest, never missing a time to celebrate with her family. In her younger days, she loved going out dancing with her cousins. As a young adult she took great pride in raising her two children Gerry and Carol Ann. Later in life, she continued sharing her joy of family by teaching her four granddaughters some of her favorite hobbies: sewing, cooking Italian treats, knitting/crocheting, and playing checkers. In her spare time she loved planning trips and traveling with her husband.
She is survived by her children, Gerardo “Gerry” Antonio Bianco Jr. and his wife Emma of Lynchburg, Carol Ann Cosby and her husband Peter of Lynchburg; four grandchildren, Casey and Amanda Bianco, and Christina and Courtney Cosby, and one brother, Joseph Cavallaro. Jennie was preceded in death by her parents Dominico Cavallaro and Antonietta Battaglia Cavallaro, husband Gerardo “Gerry” Antonio Bianco, Sr., brother Paul Cavallaro, and sister Josephine Kaszuba.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home on Wednesday October 5, 2016. A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday October 6, 2016, at Holy Cross Catholic Church with the Rev. Msgr. J. Kenneth Rush officiating. Interment will follow at Spring Hill Cemetery.
