Gladys Marie Cheatham

Gladys Marie Nixon Cheatham, 68, of Big Island, died Monday, January 2, 2012 at her residence.   She was born June 26, 1943, in Clovis, New Mexico, a daughter of the late Walter Nixon and Viola Spears Nixon.

In addition to her parents, Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Earl DeWitt Cheatham, her son, Clinton Wray Cheatham, her brother, Ronnie Nixon and her daughter-in-law, Van Cheatham Satterfield. She is survived by a son, Kenny C. Cheatham and his wife, Tammy of Coleman Falls; a daughter, Twila C. MacLarion and her husband, Freddie of Big Island; five grandchildren, Kevin Clinton Cheatham, Kayla Rebecca Cheatham, Henri Wray MacLarion, Jesse Satterfield and Joyce Satterfield; and a son-in-law, Cliff Satterfield; a sister, Carolyn Nixon Lang of Choctaw, OK.

Gladys was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church where she loved being a member of the Sedalia Stars. She was never a quitter and in spite of her limitations she always would cheerfully say, \"I\"™m hanging in there.\" Gladys\"™ love for her grandchildren will never be forgotten.

A celebration of Gladys\"™ life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Sedalia Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Jones and the Rev. Bill Owsley officiating. Burial will follow in the Cheatham Family Cemetery.  

Those wishing to make memorials are asked to consider the Sedalia Baptist Church Building Fund, 1072 Charlemont Road, Big Island, VA 24526 or The Bedford Ride, 1613 Oakwood Street, Bedford, VA 24523.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Sedalia Baptist Church and other times at Gladys\"™ home.
