Gladys Martin Blanks

Gladys Martin Blanks of Lynchburg, died July 6, 2011.  She was the wife of James Lawrence Blanks, Sr.

 

Gladys was born in Nelson County on July 28, 1933, the daughter of Walter and Gertrude V. Martin.  She graduated from Fleetwood High School and briefly attended Sweet Briar College.  She was a member of Rivermont Evangelical Church.  She was President of The Women of The Church, active with the Youth Group, and became very active with The Presbyterian Home.   She was President of The Suburban Women\"™s Club, President of The Trent\"™s Ferry Garden Club as a member and a judge.  She was involved with The Revitalization of Miller Park, and served on the National Committee for Keep America Beautiful.  She also was very active and committed to civic projects for the Youth of Lynchburg.

 

She is survived by her children, Brenda Sanzone (Mrs. Joseph A.), Milton Cole Blanks (Mindy), James Lawrence Blanks, Jr. (Blair) and Christine Shelton.

 

In addition she is survived by her granddaughter, Gladys Blair Sanzone of New York, and grandsons, Joseph Rosano Sanzone II of Lynchburg and Charlotte, NC and James Lawrence Blanks III, of Tappahonak, VA.

 

A service will be held for the immediate family.  The family will be at the home of Brenda and Joey Sanzone.

 

The family suggests making memorial contributions to James River Day School and Rivermont Evangelical Church.
