Gladys Haynes Ore

December 16, 1933 — January 19, 2024

Gladys Haynes Ore, 90, of Lynchburg, Virginia, peacefully passed into Glory on January 19, 2024.   She was a faithful and loyal servant of God, a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church, and so loved her Sunday School class (KAP).  She was a loving and faithful wife to her surviving husband Harry P. Ore for almost 69 years, journeying with him for 16 years in the USAF, living in England twice, Indiana and Michigan.

Born in Hurt, Virginia, she was the daughter of English Monroe Haynes and Mary Pinkie Hutcherson Haynes, one of ten children (seven daughters and three sons).  In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Robin P. Ore of Richmond, Stanley D. Ore of Lynchburg and Philip J. Ore (Susan) of Forest; four grandsons, Collin Ore (Christy), Samuel Ore, Nathan Ore and William Ore; great grandson Otto Ore; sisters Hessie Midkiff (NC) and Shirley McDaniel of Hurt; sisters-in-law Earleen Ore Loving and Phyllis Ore Tomlinson (Eddie); and a large extended family of Haynes and Ore nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.  

Gladys Haynes Ore was a 1950 graduate of Gretna High School, and Phillips Business College with an Executive Secretarial Diploma, working in various bookkeeping endeavors and opportunities through the years.  

She was a sweet and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and homemaker, devoted to her Lord Jesus.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven siblings; Verlie Simpson, Irene Saunders, Eugene Haynes, Hilma Mayhew, Harold Haynes, Maurice Haynes, and Doris Trevey.  

A service celebrating her life and faith will be held at 12 p.m. noon on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Flat Creek Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Earnie Carey, Jr.  The family will receive friends at a visitation, one hour prior to the service.   Following the service, there will be a light reception.  Interment will take place at Spring Hill Cemetery in Lynchburg.

The family would like to thank those who assisted during her final days, especially Centra Home Hospice Care.
