Gloria Gephart Livingston passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to Harry and Elizabeth Gephart on September 19, 1931. Gloria attended Drake University where she was involved in the theatre department. She then worked for NBC before moving to St. Croix, Virgin Islands where she met the love of her life Jack Livingston, who preceded her in death. They lived together in Arlington, VA before Gloria moved to Lynchburg, VA where she joined family in the area and happily lived with her granddaughter Rebekah, her husband Allen, and their children for the last 17 years of her life.
When living in Arlington, Gloria was very active in her congregation at Arlington Baptist Church. She had an intelligent wit, and a deep love of music and the performing arts. She took great joy in watching her grandchildren perform on the stage, listening to opera, and loved supporting all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s activities. Gloria also loved the wonders of nature and looked forward to the songbirds visiting her many bird feeders just outside her window. She was also an avid Washington football fan.
Gloria was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She is survived by her children Robert ‘Doc’ Livingston (Beth Schwartz) of Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA; David Livingston (Karin) of Burnsville, MN; and Lucille ‘Luann’ Livingston of EauClaire WI; her grandchildren Rebekah Moody (Allen) of Lynchburg, VA; Elizabeth Ruth Mayo (David) of EauClaire WI; Lauren Kenney of Gainesville, FL; Meagan Kenney of Minneapolis, MN; Sarah Baldwin (Eric) of Minneapolis, MN; Anna Walton (Dan) of Castle Rock, CO; Krista Cox (Steven) of Jackson, TN; and Lydia Mallon (Sean) of Grand Junction, CO; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Family and friends are welcome to attend a celebration of life, which will be held at Tharp Funeral Home on Thursday, February 16, 2023, at 6:00 p.m., with a visitation beginning at 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Lynchburg Daily Bread (https://www.lynchburgdailybread.com).
