Gloria H. King, 84, died on June 25, 2011, surrounded by her family in Jupiter, Florida, her winter home. She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Lawrence P. King, and her 7 children, Michelle A. Thomas and husband Sydney, Thomas F. Hoade, Lonnie F. Hoade and husband Paul Webster, John M. Hoade and wife Pam, Francis L. King and wife Lynn, Nellie L. King and husband Carl Schaefer and Josie K. Reed and husband Steve. Gloria was lovingly known as \"Glokee\" to her 16 grandchildren (Sean Thomas, Lee Thomas, Scott Thomas, Dallas Hoade, Brian Hoade, Malcolm Hoade, Sky Pacot, Breon Pacot, Keelan Pacot, Jack Hoade, Emily Hoade, Madlyn King, George Schaefer, Virginia Schaefer, Dylan Reed and Andrew Reed) and her 6 great grandchildren (Murphy Pacot, William Pacot, Sarah Pacot, Hannah Pacot, Abigail Aden and Sophia Hoade).
Gloria was not only the center of her own large and extended Irish-American family, but mother and benefactor to the many people she welcomed into her always open and crowded home.
Born in Jersey City, New Jersey in 1927 to Mr. John A. Murray-Hessner and Frances L. Sweeney, Gloria was a devoted daughter and a talented child. She had a career as a model from the age of two into her late teens. Gloria then became a wife and mother and later in life, she pursued various careers as a teacher, real-estate agent and entrepreneur. From 1975 until her death, Gloria and Larry owned and operated Lake Haven Marina and Kings Point Pub on Smith Mountain Lake, VA.
Gloria was active in social causes and touched many people during her long and fruitful life. "Glo" as she was affectionately known was also an avid lover of animals.

A viewing will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church on Wednesday June 29, 2011 from 5 p.m to 8 p.m with a brief prayer service at 5:30 pm. Funeral services will be held at Resurrection Catholic Church on Friday, July 1, 2011 at 11:00 a.m immediately followed by a graveside service and a reception in the fellowship hall. Tharp Funeral & Crematory, Bedford, 540-586-3443, is assisting the family.
