Lt. Col. Gordon Eskil Peterson Jr., 81, of Lynchburg, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 26, 2014. He was the devoted husband to Elena T. Peterson for 49 years.
Born Tuesday, March 14, 1933 in Auburn, NE, Gordon was the son of the late Gordon Eskil Peterson, Sr. and the late Cornelia Tackett Peterson. He attended Auburn High School and graduated from the University of Nebraska, before joining the U.S. Air Force. Gordon served with distinction. He flew the F-100 Super Sabre and the F-4, serving in the Korean and Vietnam Wars.
In addition to his wife, Gordon is survived by his daughter, Christine Peterson Hoezee and her husband, Larry, of Lynchburg, three grandsons, Charles, Theodore, and Oliver, a sister, Myra Peterson Roddy, a nephew, Todd Roddy and two nieces: Valerie Dyer, and Debbie Igualada.
A Mass of Resurrection will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, August 01, 2014 at Holy Cross Catholic Church with Father James Gallagher officiating. A reception for family and friends will follow the service. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
