Grace Miller Karnes Johnson

Grace Miller Karnes Johnson, 100, passed away on Thursday, November 11, 2021, after just celebrating her 100th birthday. She was born on November 7, 1921, to the late James Miller Karnes and Leola Merton James Karnes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Page Johnson and siblings, Dot, Irene, Opal, Carl, Ray, Wayne, Winnie, and Elwood.
Grace was a long-time member of Longwood Avenue Baptist Church where she was the clerk for 50 years. She worked for many years at Rubatex until she retired. Grace loved reading, playing Rook, and doing the daily crossword puzzles. She loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her sisters, Hazel Gray and Anne K. Duncan, sister-in-law, Mae Karnes, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Longwood Avenue Baptist Church, 1304 Longwood Ave. Bedford, VA 24523.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford, with Pastor Danny Holdren and Rev. Ross Gilfillen officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
