Granville Graham

d. July 28, 2018

Granville Yeaton Graham went home to be with his Lord on Saturday, July 28, 2018. He was the loving husband of Valerie Vestal Graham for 52 years. Granville was born on July 31, 1941 in New York City and grew up in Miami, FL. His life took him from being a sailor in the Navy to Art teacher to real estate broker and, most treasured of all, to an ATP Corporate pilot. In his words, he “never worked a day in [his] life.”

Poppop was the man who was always telling a story—with his words, his pictures, his artwork. He was the one who would sneak your plate at the dinner table and make you fall to the ground in pain from intense tickling. A true Renaissance man, his spectrum of skills was endless, and he mastered a hammer as well as he mastered a paintbrush.

He gave generously of his time, his love, and his knowledge of salvation. He was a member of the Gideons and an active member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. He would cry when telling his stories about the poor and broken he had seen through his travels. Poppop was a man of abundant faith, hope, and love.

“I am okay, and I was okay, and I will be okay because I know who has my best in mind, and the Lord is going to take me home,” he said during his final battle with brain cancer. Granville lived to share God’s Word, and he has left behind a legacy of love. Never one to shy away from a conversation, he made many friends wherever he went and loved each one.

Granville is survived by his wife; two daughters: Elizabeth Graham Bonheim (Corey) and Elaine Graham Treadwell (James), both of Lynchburg; his brother, Robert Selden Graham (Heather), of Miami, FL; grandchildren Justin, Makena, Reagan, Blake, Michal, Julia, Graham, and Tessa; beloved members of his wife’s family and many friends who will miss him dearly. Granville is rejoicing at the feet of Jesus, and we eagerly await the day when we will join him.

The visitation will be held on Thursday, August 2, from 6:30-8:00 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, and Granville’s Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, August 3, at 11:00 am at Thomas Road Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Gideons at P.O. Box 4723, Lynchburg, VA, 24502.
