Gregory Kent Neal, a beloved son, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in Richmond, VA. Greg was born on July 17, 1960, in Lynchburg, VA. He was the eldest child of Harold Kent Neal and the late Janet Foster Neal of Bedford.
Greg is survived by his father Harold K. Neal; brothers, Jeffrey P. Neal of Roanoke and Matthew B. Neal of Richmond; nieces, Alexa Neal McPeak (David) of Durham and Savannah K. Neal of Richmond; and great-niece, Louisa P. McPeak of Durham. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Foster Neal; infant sister, Mary Douglas Neal; and sister-in-law, Alesa Brookshier Neal of Roanoke.
Greg was a graduate of Liberty High School, where he excelled both in academics and athletics. He was a Wrestling State Champion in 1978 and a member of the State Championship Baseball team in 1977. His outstanding achievements led to his induction into the Liberty High School Sports Hall of Fame. In 1983, Greg graduated from Hampden-Sydney College with a degree in Mathematics.
Following his graduation, Greg embarked on a successful career in the Information Technology field. He dedicated 35 years to Media General/BH Media and in 2019 joined Patient First as a Senior Network Engineer. Greg exhibited unwavering commitment and professionalism in his work, always going above and beyond to fulfill his responsibilities.
Greg will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and infectious laughter that brightened the lives of those around him. He was a devoted son and brother who took care of his family with unwavering love and dedication until his last day.
Greg will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and laughter will continue to live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his presence.
Greg was a member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church. A memorial service is planned for April 13, 2024. For those wishing to attend there will be a 1:00 p.m. grave side service at Greenwood Cemetery followed by a 2:00 p.m. memorial service at Bedford Presbyterian Church, 105 West Main Street, Bedford, Virginia 24523.
