Gregory Wilson Cooper passed away at his residence on Sunday, October 29, 2023.
He was born on March 9, 1954 to the late Pascal Wilson (Jim) Cooper and the late Eleanor Crider Cooper. He graduated from Harrisonburg High School in 1972 and Michigan State University in 1976 with a degree in anthropology. Greg lived and worked most of his life in Denver, Colorado before moving to Lynchburg in 2019 to be near family. He is survived by his sister, Ann Cooper Allison and her husband Charles (Chuck) Allison, Jr. and his nieces Stefanie Erb Janky (Jonathan), Sarah Erb Kleiman (Evan) and Rebecca Ann Allison and their children Cooper and Charlotte Janky and Eleanor Kleiman and a host of cousins. He had a love of fishing, photography, this country and Jesus Christ.
A graveside service, for all friends and family, will be held at Eastlawn Memorial Garden, 3289 Spotswood Trail, Harrisonburg on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at 1pm.
A celebration of his life will be held at Tharp Funeral Home, 220 Breezewood Drive, Lynchburg on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 2pm, with a visitation following the service.
The family would like to thank Gentle Shephard Hospice, Forest Health and Rehab and all the devoted healthcare personnel that cared for Greg during his battle with lung cancer.
