H. Ray Mann

August 19, 1936 — March 5, 2019

Ray Mann, 82, of Rustburg, died March 5, 2019. He was born August 19, 1936 in Buckingham County to Herman Hudson Mann and Rosa Crews Logan. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Frances, Lois, and Jean.

He is survived by his wife Edith Eskridge Mann; six children: Angie Childress (Wayne), Tammy Mayhew (Michael), Dawn Mayberry (John), Laurie Mann (Brian Casey), Susie Drinkard (Tim), and Robert Noel; twelve grandchildren: Jessica Mayhew, Ashley Mayhew, Katelynn Mayhew, Michael Mayhew, Jr., Vincent Mayberry (Kimmie), Kari Mayberry, Shawn May (Meghan), Sarah May (Zack), Jacob May (Alexis), Jeremy Winston (Sarah), Bree Noel (Jerome), Brandon Noel (Emma); twelve great-grandchildren; brother Tony Mann (Gloria) and four special God children.

He retired from H.K. Porter/Delta Star and later retired from Areva. He faithfully attended and served at Tree of Life Ministry until his health declined and was very happy when he could watch the services live.

He was a devoted husband, father, and Papa. He was loved by many and was always ready to share a joke or a trick with his grandchildren. Although he had been in declining health, his death was sudden and unexpected.

The family would like to personally thank the MICU and staff, especially Sarah, for their kindness and concern during a very difficult time. Also Pop was very well taken care of by his Drs. Michael Kalifan and John Plankeel. We will all miss his smiles, wit and love, but are all so grateful for the precious memories he left behind.

Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, March 8, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at Tree of Life. A memorial service will follow at Tree of Life at 6:30 p.m.  Pastors Mike Dodson and Keith Vinson will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Tree of Life Ministries or the charity of your choice.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
