Harold Edward Davis

Harold Edward Davis, 77, of Concord, Va., died May 2, 2010 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. 

He was born April 6, 1933 in Gaffney, S.C., and was the son of the late Dewey George Davis and the late Thelma Buckner Davis. He graduated from Beaufort High School, playing on the championship football team that won the South Carolina state title in 1951. He was a veteran, serving as a medic in the Korean Conflict as a member of the U.S. Army. He was a 1961 graduate of Furman University in Greenville, S.C., where he earned a Bachelor\"™s degree in Classical Languages. He earned a Masters of Divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., in 1965.

He served as pastor for Clifford Baptist Church from 1965 to 1969, changing careers in 1970 to work as a sanitarian for the Lynchburg Health Department, where he worked until his retirement in 1995. He was a long-time member of College Hill Baptist Church, and later in life, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Concord, Va.

He is survived by a wife, Ann Funk Davis, of Concord, a daughter and son-in-law, Robyn Davis Sekula and Gregory Sekula of New Albany, Indiana and a sister, Lucille Brown of Summerville, S.C. He had three granddaughters, Abigail Lydia, Anna Emily and Amelia Rose Sekula, all of New Albany, Indiana.

The family will receive visitors today, Tuesday, May 4, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church in Concord with the Rev. Frank Casper officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
