Harold O’Neal Hockett

Harold O\"™Neal Hockett, 88, of Lynchburg died Monday August 6, 2012. He was the husband of the late Martha Holmes Holland Hockett for 58 years.

 Harold was born December 5, 1923 in Hurt a son of the late John Dennis Hockett and the late Lula Bobbitt Hockett. Harold honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII where he received the Purple Heart. He then retired as a Mobile Specialist with General Electric and was a member of Whites United Methodist Church.

 He is survived by his son Dennis O. Hockett, Sr. and wife Vivian of Lynchburg, his daughter Nancy Hockett Sales and husband Gary of Lynchburg, four grandchildren: Dennis O. Hockett, Jr. and Jody of Iowa, Michelle Hockett Bull and Stephen of South Carolina, Matthew H. Sales and Emily of Evington, and Melissa D. Sales of Lynchburg, six great grandchildren: Carrie, John, Cassidy, Emma, Abigail, and Grady, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 A Celebration of Harold\"™s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday August 8, 2012 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg with the Rev. Paul Gillespie officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by American Legion Post #16.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Wednesday August 8, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
