Harold Wayne Mason
Harold Wayne Mason, 70, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side, on Sunday, June 13, 2010. He was the husband of Betty Christian Mason. He was born on January 20, 1940 in Bedford County a son of the late Nellie Laughlin Mason and the late Thomas Bernard Mason.
In addition to his wife, Harold is survived by his son, Roger Wayne Mason and his wife, Angie of Lynchburg; his grandchildren, Brittany Lauren Mason, Chad Holden Mason, Joshua Caleb Mason, and Savannah Brooke Mason all of Lynchburg; his very special nieces, Holly Overstreet and Heather Overstreet; his brothers, Thomas Loyd Mason and his wife, Fran of Madison Heights, and Charles Raymond Mason and his wife, Ruby of Lynchburg; his sister Joyce Evelyn Self and her husband, Carl; his father-in-law, James Christian; his sisters-in-law, Gloria Smoot, Pat Maddox and Clara Griffith and her husband, Griff, and his brother-in-law Jimmy Christian and his wife, Sara all of Madison Heights and many nieces and nephew that he loved dearly. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by a sister, Sandra Mason Overstreet; a brother, Kenneth Earl Mason and his mother-in-law, Virginia Christian.
Harold was a member of Oakdale Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Lynchburg Foundry. Harold loved sports of all kinds and especially enjoyed spending time fishing with his family.
The family will receive friends from 7:00-8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg and other times at the residence. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Home with Pastor Terry Wornstaff, officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
