Harrell Thomas Smith of Lynchburg, born October 12, 1923 to Hattie D. and William E. Smith, went to be with the Lord on September 4, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Arlene Wood Smith, his parents, three brothers; Otis, Algie, and Noel Smith, and two sisters; Isabelle Trent and Margie Dishman.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Peoples Augsburger of Lynchburg, son and his wife, Chris and Robin Smith of Blue Ridge, his five grandchildren, Tobi Rouse, Jason and Tyler Peoples, Nathaniel and Brandon Smith, and seven great grandchildren; Caleb, Wyatt, Sadie, and Lydia Rouse, Aiden, Max, and Maya Peoples.
Harrell also leaves behind two sisters, Belva Markham and Hildred George, and one brother, Hatcher Smith. He was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. He honorably served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was also a 32nd degree Mason.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday Sept. 7, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of Harrell\"™s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday Sept. 8, 2012 in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Putt officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
