Harriett Emmalene Webster

February 2, 1940 — January 13, 2022

Harriet Emmalene Webster, 81, of Lynchburg, gained her wings peacefully on Thursday, January 13, 2022. She was born in Bedford, VA on February 2, 1940, to the late Roosevelt Calloway SR and Lillie Calloway.

Harriet Emmalene Webster loved Jesus and lived each day for the glory of God. Her life was an act of worship.  She loved her husband, her children, her grandchildren, her siblings, her friends, her church, and most of all her God and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of the choir at Holcomb Rock Baptist Church for as long as her health allowed. Sundays were her favorite days, she would get all the family to congregate, listen to music and to enjoy everyone’s favorite meals. Harriet was a nurturer even after she raised her own family, she played a huge role in raising other children. She was a nanny for over 15 years, and she loved every bit of it. She was truly one of a kind. She had a beautiful smile that would brighten up any room.

She is survived by her husband of 40+years, Leroy Webster. Her 6 children: Shirley Smith, Barbara Williams (Rodney), Mary Smith, Melvina Smith-Thompson, Carolyn Coles, and Melinda Smith. Her 6 stepchildren Sandra Webster, Melissa Webster, Anthony Webster, Ricky Webster, Ronetta Jones, Delissa Carr. Her 7 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, her 4 sisters Mary Goggins, Fannie Terry, Cora Coles, Marie Mosley her 2 brothers Roosevelt Calloway and Frederick Calloway. A host of nieces and nephews who all greatly cherished her life.

She is preceded in death by her mother, Lillie Calloway; father, Roosevelt Calloway and son, Melvin Smith Jr.

At 81 years old, her life-story is now complete. She was a woman full of love, a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. We truly cherished her strength, love, and gratefulness for life. As we mourn her loss, we do so with an intention to celebrate the impact she had on this world. She will live on in spirit through the generations of those lucky enough to have been graced by her presence.

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday, January 20, 2022, from 7 PM – 8 PM at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg and her celebration of life will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022, at 1 PM, at Holcomb Rock Baptist Church followed by a burial also at Holcomb Rock Baptist Church.
