Harry Honig went to meet his Lord on Sunday, August 26, 2018. He was the son of Joe and Rose Honig of Brooklyn, NY.

He spent his formative years in Brooklyn, NY, Middletown, CN and Williamsport, PA. He resigned from the Williamsport Senior High School in the 10th grade to take a job as a laborer in the textile mill. At night he attended a trade school to become a machinist. This qualified him to work for the US Navy on the bomb damaged ships in Pearl Harbor. He went to Pearl Harbor early in 1942 and remained there for a little over two years before joining the army. He trained as a rifleman at Camp Roberts, CA before joining the 38th Infantry Division in the Philippines. He participated in one campaign against the Japanese which took place in the Sierra Madre Mountains East of Manilla. After the armistice was signed with Japan he was transferred to the military police and was stationed at the war crimes trails in Manila.

Upon discharge from the Army, Mr. Honig obtained his high school diploma and earned a BS in chemical engineering from the University of New Mexico on the GI bill. He worked for the Phillips Petroleum Corp. in Oklahoma and Texas. Later he joined the General Electric Corp in Oak Ridge, TN. There he met and married Lois Lynwood Lowrey of Lubbock, TX. She was working as chemist for the Union Carbide Corp. Mr. Honig went on to retire from Babcock and Wilcox Co., in Lynchburg VA, after 40 years of service. Their marriage lasted 59 years until Mrs. Honig passed away on April 18, 2013. The Honigs left four children and six grandchildren as proof that they passed this way.

A Memorial Service will be held at Old City Cemetery, Lynchburg on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.

Mr. and Mrs. Honig will be resting peacefully together in the Scatter Garden of the Old City Cemetery in Lynchburg, VA.
