Harry Raymond Waddle, 86, of Huddleston, VA, died at his home on October 22, 2016. He was born in Hattiesburg, MS on October 24, 1929 to Dr. Harry Patton Waddle and Minnie (Nee Hartzel) Waddle. He had one sister, Margaret Belle. He joined the United States Army and served in Japan at the end of World War II. He married Mary Winifred Clines in 1949. After marriage Harry and Winnie were blessed with five children. Harry joined the OSS which later became the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). He and his family lived in several countries throughout his 30 year career including Germany, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Korea and Laos. In February 1976, Harry was awarded a Certificate of Distinction from acting CIA director George Bush for his heroic actions taken in May of 1975 when he entered a building under enemy guard to recover and destroy sensitive materials. He retired from the CIA in 1980. He worked in real estate after retiring. Harry and his wife, Winnie moved to a home they built on Smith Mountain Lake in 1987. He loved hosting his family and friends at the lake and everyone was always welcome. His beloved Winnie passed away in 2006. In 2008 he met Judy Spitz and they have been inseparable companions ever since.
He is survived by Judy Spitz, his partner of eight years. His loving children and spouses, Harry Patton Waddell (Barbara), Mary Kathleen Waddle (Fran), Jerry Raymond Waddle (Ellen), Robert Lawrence Waddell (Gwenne) and Suzanne Marie Guilfoyle (Frank); sister-in-law, Heidi Clines; grandchildren, Erica Perri (Joe), Mark Waddle (Anna), Bryan Waddle, Jack Waddell (Olivia), Aidan Guilfoyle, Mairin Guilfoyle, Eilise Guilfoyle, Gregory Guilfoyle and Bryant Guilfoyle, Taylor Waddle and Hayley Waddell also numerous nieces nephews and many friends. In addition to his parents and wife, Harry was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret Belle Stickels; brother-in-law’s, Thomas Gregory Clines, Barry Clines, Robert Clines; sister-in-law Eleanor Phelps (Lou Phelps).

A celebration of Harry R. Waddle’s life will be held at 12:00 noon on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Resurrection Catholic Church in Moneta, VA. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service starting at 11:00 am. Graveside Committal will follow service in Resurrection Catholic Church Cemetery.
