Harry \"Richard\" McKinney, 75, of Bedford, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013. Born June 14, 1937, he was a son of the late Harry Bernell McKinney and Gladys Veron Phillips McKinney.
Richard was a member of Suck Spring Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and a retired tanker driver \"Sly Fox.\" He enjoyed race car driving, gardening, auto mechanics and especially loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Bobbitt; a brother, Clarence McKinney; and a son, Randy McKinney. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marva Bryant; a daughter, Lisa and John Hicks; four sons, Ken and Dana McKinney, Jeff McKinney, Steve and Brandi McKinney, Phillip McKinney and fiancé, Becky; nine grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild and sisters, Lois Williamson and Evelyn Huffman and husband, Tom.
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 6, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home and at other times at Richard\"™s residence. A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Tharp Funeral Home.
