Heidi Bierlein Tollar, 48, of Lynchburg passed away with family and friends at her side Sunday, May 16, 2021.
Heidi was born November 2, 1972 in Winchester, Virginia the daughter of Ray Bierlein of Winchester and Barbara Lockhart Teates of Lynchburg. Heidi graduated from Lynchburg College in 1994 with a B.S. in Nursing. She was Nurse of the Year as a senior and was a Cardiac Tech with Rustburg Rescue Squad. She loved her career as a registered nurse in the Mother/Baby Unit (Virginia Baptist Hospital) and the EDO Unit (Lynchburg General). Heidi developed deep friendships with nursing colleagues and hospital staff who cared for her when she was ill. As a member of Heritage United Methodist Church, Heidi enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Heidi’s children meant everything to her and she raised them with abundant love and enthusiasm. She loved family, vacations, ocean beaches and football.
Heidi was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Grafton Bierlein Sr. and Virginia Bierlein, her uncle Grafton Bierlein Jr., and maternal grandparents, Coddie Lockhart and Virgina Lockhart. In addition to her mother and father, Heidi is survived by daughter Savannah Tollar, son Luke Tollar, grandson Asaiah Hashim all of Lynchburg, one brother Eric Bierlein and his wife Katie and nieces and nephews Kyle, Madison, McKinlea, Lyndon, Grayson and Hunter also of Lynchburg, and her stepmother Ande Bierlein of Winchester
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 23, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.
A Celebration of Heidi’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, May 24, 2021 at Heritage United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bob Michalides officiating with assistance from Amy Beth Coleman. Interment will follow at Meade Cemetery. Attendees may choose to wear blue and white in honor of Heidi’s love of the beach.
