Helen Hubbard Tankersley

Helen Hubbard Tankersley, 93, passed away Monday, July 23, 2012. Helen was born July 15, 1919, in Bedford County to the late Frank Lee and Cordie Johnson Hubbard.

She resided in Newport News, Virginia for twenty-eight years, worked for NASA, and returned to Bedford in 1974. Helen was an active member of Bethany United Methodist Church and several civic organizations. She was an officer of Bedford Elks Lodge #2844 and also served as Exalted Ruler of the Elks National Home Lodge #8081 in 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Maurice Tankersley; daughter, Nancy Jane Tankersley; grandson, Randolph Chevers; sister, Lucille Leonard and brother, Frank L. Hubbard.

Helen is survived by a daughter, Sandra T. Daughtrey and her husband, Waverly W. Daughtrey; sister-in-law, Helen N. Hubbard; sister-in-law, Winifred Holdren; five grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 PM, Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. H.O. Thomas officiating. Burial will be private.
