Helen Louise Kushner Vyhnalek passed on May 12, 2014 at age 87. Helen was married for 48 years to the late Louis T. Vyhnalek of Parma, Ohio, after which she moved to Lynchburg, Virginia.
Helen was preceded in death by her infant son, Tommy, as well as her parents Martin Kushner and Anna Aschcroft Kushner and her brothers and sisters.
Helen’s father was a coal miner in Colver, Pennsylvania, where she and her five siblings were raised, after which she moved to Cleveland, Ohio. Helen took real joy in the activities and doings with her family.
She leaves behind her daughter Judy Ann Steigerwald and her husband Rick of Forest, and her son Gary Gerard Vyhnalek of Centreville; her grandsons Keith Steigerwald and his wife Gloria of Columbus, Ohio; Craig Steigerwald of Charleston, South Carolina and his dear friend Mary Catherine Hutchens of Lynchburg; and her brother James Kushner of Ebensburg, Pennsylvania.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 16, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Lynchburg with the Rev. Msgr. Michael D. McCarron officiating. The family will receive friends tonight from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home, and Friday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Interment will be Saturday, May 17, 2014 at 2:45 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 3015 Roundelay Road, Lynchburg, VA 24502.
The family is grateful to the concerned staff at Runk & Pratt on Leesville Road where Helen lived for nearly four years, and the recent caring support by Seven Hills Hospice.
