Helen Marie Loughran

Helen Marie Loughran, 89, of Lynchburg, died peacefully with her family at her side on Saturday, September 28, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family.

Born March 31, 1924 in Oswego, NY she graduated in 1942 from Oswego High School and graduated from Passaic Business School in NJ. After moving to Lynchburg in 1959, she became active at Holy Cross Catholic Church and Holy Cross School and served as a member of The Ladies of Charity of Holy Cross Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Henry Alexander Loughran, four sisters, and four brothers.

Helen is survived by her sister Peggy Bumbera of Clifton, NJ, and her eight children: her daughter Patricia L. Sagman and her husband Michael of Williamsburg, her son Thomas P. Loughran of Richmond, her daughter Mary E. Armstrong and her husband Dana of Boise, Idaho, her daughter Joan L. DeVillar and her husband Arthur of Peoria, Illinois, her daughter Barbara E. Loughran of Richmond, her daughter Kathleen L. Burton of Richmond, her son Henry M. Loughran and his wife Karen of Richmond, and her daughter Margaret L. Fingers and her husband Richard of Dayton, Ohio. Helen is also survived by sixteen grandchildren: Victoria T. Fisk, Scott K. Sagman, Crystal G. Deignan, Sydney S. Holliday, Erin S. Micek, Ashley B. Kennedy, Abigail L. Armstrong, Michelle E. Cook, Stephanie L. Blake, Michael A. DeVillar, Lauren M. Fingers, Jeremy H. Armstrong, Kathryn L. Fingers, Henry A. Loughran II, Richard A. Fingers, and Connor B. Loughran, as well as 15 great-grandchildren and loving neices and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2013, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 710 Clay Street, Lynchburg, with Monsignor J. Kenneth Rush officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Lynchburg. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
