Helen Moore Bailey, 95, of Rustburg, died Saturday, March 10, 2018.  She was the wife of the late Irvin Spencer Bailey for 39 years. Her family rejoices in knowing that she is reunited with Irvin, whom she truly adored.

Born April 03, 1922, in Campbell County, Helen was a daughter of the late Asa Lafayette Moore and the late Myrtle Marsh Moore.

In addition to her husband and parents, Helen was preceded in death by a brother, Carlton Moore, and two sisters, Kathryn M. Kidd and Marie M. Cyrus.

Helen is survived by two sons, Allen Bailey, and his wife, Kathy, of Forest, and Wayne Bailey and wife, Sandie, of Fort Worth, TX; three grandchildren, Tanya Gordon, and her husband, Heath, of Lynchburg, Josh Bailey, and his wife, Lisa, of Forest, Jessica Wright, and her husband, Jamie, of Forest; five great grandchildren, Bailey Wright, Nathan Gordon, Jenna Gordon, Grayson Bailey, and Parker Bailey; and a brother, Edward David Moore, of Forest.

Helen worked as a retail manager at Sears and Roebuck, and later worked as a caregiver for the elderly, although she was usually older than those she cared for.  She was a great example of what it is to be a strong woman, especially to her grandchildren.  Helen was an exceptional cook and enjoyed preparing food for her family and friends, including homemade bread, cakes, pies, and of course, her famous chicken and potato salad.  Helen was a longtime member of Mt. Zion Methodist Church followed by New Chapel Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg.  A celebration of Helen’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Dooley officiating.  Interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Zion Methodist Church.

Helen’s family would like to express their appreciation to the staff on Towne Square at Summit Health and Rehab for caring for Helen for many years.
