Helen Pugh Daniel

May 12, 1930 — July 16, 2016

Helen Pugh Daniel, 86, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, July 16, 2016.  She was the wife of the late James Murrell Daniel for 54 years.

Helen was born in Lynchburg on May 12, 1930, to the late Frank Jones Pugh and the late Odell Johnson Pugh.  For her time, Helen was a very accomplished woman.  She graduated from E C Glass High School, worked for the war efforts in the Chapstick factory and was one of a very few women sent to Richmond to learn computer technology.  She was a loving wife and mother to three children and a number of their friends.

What Helen brought to this world was something always lacking – pure, unadulterated excitement and joy.  Her imagination made worlds of fuzz-covered acorns, songs of tired words and laughter of still silence.  She never met a stranger and left everyone with a smile and her catch phrase “Isn’t that something?”

Helen is survived by her brother, Frank David Pugh and his wife, Rose, her children, Dawn Heneberry and her husband Ted of Charlottesville, Jennifer Osinga and her husband John of Lynchburg, and Jim Daniel and his wife Kim of Richmond.  Helen also leaves behind six grandchildren, Helen Osinga, Amber Brown and her husband Andrew, John Osinga, and Kate, Caroline, and James Daniel.

A graveside service will be conducted on Thursday July 21, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. in Spring Hill Cemetery, with Pastor Peter A. Thompson officiating.  The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the home of her daughter, Jenny.

The family wishes to thank her faithful caregivers at Cadence Companions for their warm, compassionate care over the last 8 years.
