Helen Craddock Saunders

April 24, 1944 — February 25, 2025

Helen Saunders died peacefully with her children by her side Tuesday, February 25 at Lynchburg General Hospital.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents John Goodwin and Caroline Patteson Craddock and her beloved husband George Edward Saunders Jr. She was the granddaughter of the late Abram Poindexter and Ella Elizabeth Craddock and James Macon and Helen Woodward Patteson. 

She is survived by her daughter Mary Spencer Saunders Sandlin of Richmond, VA and sons John V. Saunders of Los Angeles, CA and Christopher B. Saunders of Forest, VA.

She loved and adored her four grandchildren Joshua (Madison) Sandlin of Richmond, VA, Madison (Jon) of Atlanta, GA and Samuel and Spencer Saunders of Forest, VA as well as great grandchildren Margot June and Malcolm Sandlin. She also cared very deeply for Suzanne Saunders and Eric Sandlin and little one’s “Lucy” and “Nash”.

Helen graduated from E.C. Glass High School in 1962. She grew up in Fort Hill and remained life long friends with Linda Meadows Sprouse, Ann Vaughn Stinson and of course her most cherished friend Pat Davis. She was a life long homemaker but also loved caring for children and for a time was a Child Care Specialist at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Helen most loved the holidays and spending time with her family at the beach. She will be missed by all who loved her.

The family will receive friends at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg location, Monday, March 3, 2025 at 6-8P.M. A graveside services will be held Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 11:00A.M. at Virginia Memorial Park.
