Helen Turpin Burks Logwood

Surrounded by family, friends, and the Reverend Becky Crites, Mrs. Helen Turpin Burks Logwood, born on October 5, 1911, peacefully passed away on January 5, 2012. A resident at Campbell\"™s Rest Home in Bedford, VA, she is preceded in death by her parents, Penn and Ester Turpin; two loving husbands, L. Watson Burks and Hezzie Logwood; five siblings, Pauline Tomlinson, Gordon Turpin, William Turpin, Margaret Blankenship, and George Turpin.

She is survived by two sons, Barney L. Burks and his wife, Debbie of Virginia Beach, VA and Freddy C. Burks of Charlotte, NC; three grandchildren, David Burks and his wife Sheila of High Point, NC, Lara Burks Smith of High Point, NC, and Shannon Sweeny and her husband, Andrew of Phoenix, AZ; four great-grandchildren, Drew Smith and Emma Burks of High Point, NC, and Margaret and Kayla Sweeney of Phoenix, AZ.

Mrs. Logwood was a retired school teacher from the Forsyth County Public School system in North Carolina. She was a long-time member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church; past member of the Altar Guild and church choir for many years.

Mrs. Logwood graduated from High Point College in North Carolina and attended Harrisonburg State Teachers College in Harrisonburg, Virginia.

The entire family wishes to express our sincere appreciation to the exceptional staff members who so lovingly cared for Mrs. Helen over the past few years at Campbell\"™s Rest Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, (Bedford, VA) general fund.

A Memorial service will be conducted 2 PM, Saturday, January 14, 2012, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Bedford, 586-3443.
