Henry “Hank” Hobson Smith, 88, of Lynchburg died Tuesday, November 27, 2018. He was the husband of the late Florence “Flo” Pittman Smith for 62 years.
Henry was born July 26, 1930 in Lynchburg, a son of the late Theron N. Smith and Ora Preas Smith. Henry honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He owned and operated B & M Transfer trucking company, was a member of the Fort Hill Kiwanis Club. He also was an avid golfer and loved his pets. He and Flo loved many long walks together and enjoyed conversations with their neighbors along the way.
He is survived by two sisters, Rachel Olinger of Lynchburg and Anne Arthur of Fredericksburg. In addition to his wife and parents he is preceded in death by one sister Corinne Cassanova and one infant brother and sister.
A gathering to honor Hank’s life and to share stories will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, 220 Breezewood Dr., Lynchburg, VA 24502. A scattering ceremony will be at Old City Cemetery at a later time.
