Henry Hugh Radcliffe, 63, of Concord, passed on Saturday, September 9, 2017.  He was the loving husband of Joan Rockwell for 22 years. Born Wednesday, August 18, 1954 in San Diego, Calif., Hugh was the son of the late Philip David Radcliffe and the late Jean Effie Norton Radcliffe. In addition to his wife, Hugh is survived by Joyce Radcliffe, Debbie Thrasher, Tracy and Steve Hilger, and Cheryl, Andrew, Lindsey and Kyle Miller; Rita and Brad Spencer-Moehl, William Joseph Jr., Scott Joseph, and Gary Spencer, and Cyrus Moehl; Phillip Radcliffe and Tori Banton, Lucas and Zoe Radcliffe; Daniel and Rebecca Radcliffe, and  Lena Peters; Cyrus Eyster and Molly Frey; Eleanor, Andrew, Jake and Lila Fahrney; Joshua Taylor, Zach Hart and Devon Radcliffe; Scott, Joy, Emily and Oliva Judy. Hugh was a master machinist and gunsmith, working for companies all across America including Nasco Navy Shipyard in San Diego, Boeing in Seattle, and Areva, on Mt. Athos Road, Lynchburg. He ran his own shop in Appomattox in the late 1980s. He loved to teach others, and he always believed in everyone’s ability to succeed. Hugh treated everyone with compassion and respect. He had an uncanny ability to remember everyone he met. He loved nature and wildlife, and he dedicated his life to preserving natural habitats. A Remembrance Gathering to celebrate Hugh’s life will be at 10:30 a.m.  Saturday, September 16, 2017, at 439 Walker’s Ford Road, Concord, Va. 24538 (first driveway on left, with sign, after turning off of Beckham Road).
