Herb Mueck, 90 of Lynchburg lived a long, full life. He died of natural causes at his home on Saturday, July 8, 2017. Herb was born in Ixheim, Germany on February 11, 1927. He is the son of the late Bernhard and Maria Mueck of Zweibrucken, Germany.
Herb served in the Germany Navy on a Schnellboat in the Mediterranean Theater at the very end of World War II. He survived the war, however he spent the three and half years following the war in a British Prisoner of War (POW) Camp in Northern Egypt. Following his release from POW Camp, Herb immigrated to the United States, Washington D.C specifically. It is here that he met and married his wife Elise in 1957. They started their family in Rosslyn, VA, where he worked for 27 years for Melpar / E-Systems directly supporting the U.S. Military. In 1964, they moved from Rosslyn to Woodbridge, VA where they stayed until he finished his career with Melpar / E-Systems. Upon retirement, Herb and Elise moved to Lynchburg, VA which they’ve called home since 1990. Herb’s love of his family, model railroads and scale miniatures, traveling, birdwatching, coaching and playing soccer and the Washington Redskins kept him active and engaged in life. We will miss him beyond words.
In addition to his loving wife of 60 years, Elise Irenes Mueck, Herb is survived by his two sons, Steven Herbert Mueck and his wife, Debra of Boone, NC and Andrew Bernhard Mueck and his wife, Shannon of Lorton, VA; Herb was extremely proud of them both having served full careers in the Army and Navy. Herb was also a very proud grandfather to Sam, Tom, Jack and Katie.
