Herbert “Butch” Sowers, Jr.

Herbert Earthel \"Butch\" Sowers, Jr., 65, of Glade Hill, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at his residence in Franklin County. He was born on April 27, 1948 in Vinton, a son of the late Herbert Earthel Sowers, Sr., and Mary Davis Craig Sowers.

Butch was a member of Vinton Baptist Church and New Life Church. He was a graduate of Ferrum College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was very active with the Vinton Rec. Department and the Franklin Co. Rec. Department.

Butch is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Jean Mitchell Sowers; four daughters, Theresa Sowers, Holly Erica Alls, Summer Dee Sowers-Kemp and husband, Herbert Kemp, Jr., Megan Renee Foley and husband, David; seven grandchildren, Shayna Alls, Joshua Alls, Shaun Macklin, Jr; Skyler Kemp, Cadence Kemp; Sean Foley, Samuel Foley; one brother, Craig Douglas and wife, Cindy; one sister, Judith Leigh Sowers Stinnett and husband, Wayne; one half-sister, Deborah Smith; three half-brothers, Richard Sowers, Anthony Sowers and Johnny Sowers. Also numerous nieces nephews and many friends.

A celebration of Butch\"™s life will be conducted at Vinton Baptist Church on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Smith Mountain Lake, (540) 721-9375.
