Herbert Earthel \"Butch\" Sowers, Jr., 65, of Glade Hill, passed away on Friday, May 17, 2013 at his residence in Franklin County. He was born on April 27, 1948 in Vinton, a son of the late Herbert Earthel Sowers, Sr., and Mary Davis Craig Sowers.
Butch was a member of Vinton Baptist Church and New Life Church. He was a graduate of Ferrum College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He was very active with the Vinton Rec. Department and the Franklin Co. Rec. Department.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Barbara Jean Mitchell Sowers; four daughters, Theresa Sowers, Holly Erica Alls, Summer Dee Sowers-Kemp and husband, Herbert Kemp, Jr., Megan Renee Foley and husband, David; seven grandchildren, Shayna Alls, Joshua Alls, Shaun Macklin, Jr; Skyler Kemp, Cadence Kemp; Sean Foley, Samuel Foley; one brother, Craig Douglas and wife, Cindy; one sister, Judith Leigh Sowers Stinnett and husband, Wayne; one half-sister, Deborah Smith; three half-brothers, Richard Sowers, Anthony Sowers and Johnny Sowers. Also numerous nieces nephews and many friends.

A celebration of Butch\"™s life will be conducted at Vinton Baptist Church on Monday, May 20, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Smith Mountain Lake, (540) 721-9375.
