Herman Visser, of Bedford, 75, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2015. He was the loving husband of Beverly Vaughan Visser of 55 years.
A son of Karel and Suzanna Visser, Herman was born September 15, 1940 in Queens, N.Y. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Air Force for four years as a radar operator. After his time in the air force, he worked for Brooklyn Union Gas Company. He then went on to serve and protect the people of New York with the NYPD for 14 years. He also assisted his wife raising and training guide dogs for Guiding Eyes for the Blind in Yorktown, New York.
He was a member of the Lions Club NY, and volunteered with the Moneta Fire Department as well as a lifetime member. He held numerous positions with both the Moneta Fire Department and The American Legion. Some of his passions included fishing, hunting, gardening, and cooking.
In addition to his wife, left to cherish Herman’s memories are his daughters, Teresa Tamizker and her husband, Jafar, and Priscilla Visser; adopted daughter Kathy Furr and family; his grandchildren, Keith Ling, Brent Parisi, and Chazz Parisi; his brother, Teunis Visser; his sister, Margaret Thorton and her husband, Richard; one great grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held in Herman’s memory at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford, on Friday, November 6, 2015 at 2 pm with Father Steve McNally officiating. Military honors provided by American Legion Post 54. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 5, 2015 from 5 until 7 pm at Tharp Funeral Home, Bedford.
