Hilda Farmer Shepherd

Hilda Farmer Shepherd, 93, of Lynchburg passed away at Virginia Baptist Hospital Hospice after a short illness.  She was the daughter of Ovid Gravitt Farmer & William Marvin Farmer.  She was married to the late John W. Shepherd, Jr.

 

In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her two sisters, Juanita F. Lasher and Hortense Farmer, a son, Jay Shepherd, and one grandchild.

 

She is survived by two daughters Sally S. Revere, wife of Charles R. Revere of Hartfield, Va., Sherry S. Hollingsworth, wife of Thomas E. Hollingsworth of Matthews, NC.  In addition she is survived by two sons, Tim J. Shepherd and wife Linda Reyes Shepherd of Lynchburg and Jim B. Shepherd and wife Linda C. Shepherd of Rustburg.  Hilda is survived by nephew Fred Lasher, of Alameda, CA. Hilda is also survived by nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

 

Hilda and \"Shep\" owned or operated several businesses during their lifetime, the last being Shepherds Fabrics, Supplies, and Antiques located on Campbell Ave. for many years.  They were true partners throughout their marriage of 59 years. She was an active member of her church, College Hill Baptist, for over 70 years.  Her Sunday School and Church friends were very important to her.  For the last six years, she was an active resident of Valley View Retirement Center, where she was bingo guru.  Life was always a big adventure for her, and she met it full-on for all of her years.

 

The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Wednesday, December 29, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A private family graveside service will be conducted at Spring Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Andrew P. Grose officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be sent to College Hill Baptist Church, 1101 Floyd Street, Lynchburg, VA, 24501 or to Centra Hospice at 3300 Rivermont Ave. Lynchburg, VA 24503.
