Hiram John Gerber, 77, died Thursday, September 12, 2013 after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Hiram was born in Rochester, NY on February 10, 1936. After attending the University of Rochester, he moved to New York City and studied acting with Irene Dailey. In New York, Hiram began what would be his life long career in the field of retail. He worked for Lord & Taylor, Saks Fifth Avenue, Burberry\"™s, and J. C. Penny. He also established his own shoe business.
In 1993 Hiram moved to Lynchburg because of his interest in historic architecture. In Lynchburg he continued the restoration of Yewcrest, a Greek revival house on Garland Hill.
Hiram is survived by his devoted partner of 40 years, Robert Lee Holloway of Lynchburg, special friends, Nancy DeSimone, Rosanna Foster, and Roger Danford, all of New York City. He is also survived by his beloved standard poodle, Mariah.
A memorial service for Hiram will be announced at a later date.
